VR for Academic Programs and Student Affairs: 2011 Innovative Teaching Award, and the new focus for the 2012 Excellence in Teaching Award

The this year's awardees of the Innovative Teaching Award ("Innovative Lehre") for the academic year 2010/11 are determined! An overview and further information about the designs and explanatory statements can be found here. The awards will be presented by the rectorate within the award ceremony on December 1st, 2011.
In addition WU will be awarding the fourth annual Excellence Teaching Award ("Exzellente Lehre") to instructors of outstanding courses. The award for the year 2012 will focus on “reflection and viability”. The call for applications for this award will go out soon.

Wittgenstein Award 2010 goes to WU researcher Wolfgang Lutz

In his research, Univ.Prof. Wolfgang Lutz (Institute for Statistics and Mathematics) has contributed to groundbreaking achievements in the analysis of population developments. These achievements have included empirical analyses of birth rates, models for predictions of population development, and studies on the relationship between developments in population and the environment. With the Wittgenstein endowment, Lutz plans to establish the "Research Center for International Human Capital," which will also be supported by the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the WU in close cooperation with IIASA.
The Wittgenstein Award is Austria's largest and most prestigious research prize, and it has been awarded by the FWF on behalf of the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research since 1996. The recipient is provided with a budget of up to EUR 1.5 million for (further) research activities over a period of five years.

WU researcher awarded Elise Richter Position

Dr. Dragana Damjanovic (Institute for Austrian and European Public Law) has been awarded an Elise Richter Position by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) for her habilitation thesis entitled "Soziale Marktregeln für Europa" (Social market rules for Europe).

WU represents Vienna on “World Green Building Day”

On World Green Building Day, September 23, 2009, various events were held all around the world to make people aware of the crucial role building and the construction industry play in climate change, and of the necessity for change.

WU researcher distinguished by Oxford University

Prof. Wolfgang Lutz was granted the title "Professorial Research Fellow" by Oxford University. This is the highest status granted by the renowned university to external researchers.  Prof. Lutz will be conducting research at Oxford on an ERC Advanced Grant.
